Winter is finally here in NYC

As of yesterday I was prepared for a very exciting day of laundry and editing, until the weather decided I should change plans.

This is officially the first Snow of the year, and my first time seeing a real snowstorm. Laundry and projects would have to be put on hold for a few more hours while I put my photojournalist hat on.

Story continues after the break..

Days in Puerto Rico with the Sony NEX-5N

Once again I find myself flying from my native island of puerto Rico to my home in new york. There are no babies crying on this flight, no seat kicking behind me, it feels like a good opportunity to reflect on my experiences during my stay.

so hit the jump for nearly 40 images of vacation awesomeness.

First days with the Sony NEX-5N

Thanks to the magic of christmas (and a very generous mother) I am now the owner of a Sony NEX-5N with a Sony 16mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens.
As a photographer I am extremely picky with the quality of the camera im using, but I have issues with bringing a bag full of lenses and flashes everywhere I go. This is something that i've been looking for quite a while, a small enough camera that I can carry with me everywhere without sacrifing the DSLR quality i'm used to working with.
Besides the Sony, I was also considering the Fujifilm X100 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1. The X100 has especially brought a lot of positive feedback from every photographer I know that uses it, with some users going as far as selling the rest of their gear and dedicating themselves to a very simple system.

Even though I have some issues with the focusing speed of the camera, im fast becoming a big fan of it. The 16mm lens keeps the whole package quite small and it attracts very little attention from bystandaers. Also it includes quite a few presets like panorama, selective coloring and a few more. As you can see from my pictures im a fan of the high contrast black and white preset.
Here are a few snapshots taken using the camera. All of these are straight from the camera with only the presets used as editing. All of these photos are taken in Manhattan New York in areas like the Financial District and Columbia University.

Not your typical Saints

Inpsired by the Stylo video from Gorillaz. I've previously featured this musical duo in my blog here

We shot this early morning in Dorado Puerto Rico, where the air had a salty breeze from the nearby beach and the sun was going up at an alarmingly fast rate.

For the car, we had a Camaro 2010, which my father will probably recognize as his, and will start fuming and cursing as a result of reading this article.

More photos and gear used listed after the break.

Portrait of Luis

In the streets of New York I had the pleasure to shoot to real estate agent Luis, perhaps one of the best dressed people I've had the pleasure of shooting.

A special thanks to our mutual friend Fidias for helping in creating this portrait and keeping everyone smiling during the shoot.

Instructions on how I achieved this look and more photos after the break.
